Fats

Foods in this group contain mostly fats and very little carbs or protein. Each serving averages 50 calories and 5 grams of fat. Fats are essential, and some fats are better than others.

Better Fats:

  • Avacado
  • Nuts
  • Olives
  • Cooking with olive, canola, or peanut oil

Other Choices (Use in moderation):

  • Lite margarine
  • Reduced-fat or fat-free salad dressings and mayonnaise

Less Healthy Choices (Try avoiding):

  • Regular margarine
  • Butter
  • Bacon
  • Sour cream
  • Cream cheese
  • Half-and-half

 *Try out the fat-free or low-fat versions first, and if you don’t like them, eat the regular kind but in moderation.
