Foods in this group contain mostly fats and very little carbs or protein. Each serving averages 50 calories and 5 grams of fat. Fats are essential, and some fats are better than others.
Better Fats:
- Avacado
- Nuts
- Olives
- Cooking with olive, canola, or peanut oil
Other Choices (Use in moderation):
- Lite margarine
- Reduced-fat or fat-free salad dressings and mayonnaise
Less Healthy Choices (Try avoiding):
- Regular margarine
- Butter
- Bacon
- Sour cream
- Cream cheese
- Half-and-half
*Try out the fat-free or low-fat versions first, and if you don’t like them, eat the regular kind but in moderation.
