Signs & Symptoms
Just as women have a tendency to be ultra sensitive to the signs and symptoms of heart attack in their husbands, they tend to ignore or deny their own symptoms. As women, "we simply do not have time".
Women's symptoms of heart attack can be completely different from a man's signs and symptoms. You need to become aware of your own signs and symptoms of heart attack.
Know the Warning Signs of Women's Heart Disease:
- Pressure, fullness, squeezing or pain in the center of your chest that lasts or goes away and then comes back
- A general feeling of unexplained anxiety, weakness or fatigue
- Pain that spreads to the shoulder, neck or arms
- Chest discomfort with light-headedness, dizziness, fainting, sweating, nausea or shortness of breath
- Unusual stomach or abdominal pain
- Heart fluttering, palpitations, cold seats or paleness
- Swelling, particularly in the lower legs
If you have any of these symptoms, you do not necessarily have heart disease, but you should listen to your body. Talk with your doctor, and convey your concerns and symptoms clearly. Ask questions until you are satisfied that you have all of the information you need and understand the answers.
If at any time, you believe you may be having a heart attack, call 911 immediately. Do not hesitate!
